Michele MacDonald

Hi there, and welcome. It’s great to meet you. Embarking on the path of therapy is a courageous step toward self-discovery, healing, and growth. While this journey can offer profound insights, emotional breakthroughs, and meaningful change, finding the right therapist can sometimes feel uncertain or overwhelming. I invite you into this experience with warmth and acceptance, and I’m here to help you navigate the process.

My name is Michele, and I am a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. I am deeply passionate about supporting individuals and couples as they navigate challenges, deepen self-understanding, and move toward greater well-being.

I believe that many of the ways we cope with life’s challenges are adaptive patterns that developed in response to earlier experiences and relationships. In therapy, we work together to understand these patterns with curiosity and compassion, creating space for new emotional and relational experiences. My goal is to support clients in developing greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and flexibility in how they respond to themselves and others.

My approach to therapy is grounded in a humanistic and relational philosophy that recognizes each person’s inherent worth, resilience, and capacity for growth. I strive to create a safe, collaborative space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences openly and without judgment. Together, we gently explore the patterns that shape your experiences and the protective roles they may have played, while working toward new ways of relating to yourself and others with greater awareness and compassion.

In our work together, I take a trauma-informed approach and tailor the therapeutic process to each person’s unique needs. I draw from a variety of therapeutic perspectives and pay close attention to emotional experiences and how stress or overwhelm can show up in the body. I support clients in exploring difficult feelings at a pace that feels safe, helping them develop greater emotional balance, self-understanding, and flexibility in responding to life’s challenges.

I provide therapy to individuals (ages 16+) and couples. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, communication challenges, emotional expression and regulation, self-esteem, stress, and life transitions. I approach my work with empathy, cultural humility, and respect for the unique experiences that shape each person’s story.

I have completed Level 2 training in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy, which equips me with specialized tools to help couples strengthen friendship, improve communication, and navigate conflict in constructive ways. I am passionate about helping partners deepen their understanding of one another and build relationships that feel supportive, connected, and meaningful.

Outside of my professional role, I enjoy spending time outdoors—you can often find me camping at provincial parks around Nova Scotia in the summertime or walking through Point Pleasant Park by the water. I also enjoy practicing mindfulness and yoga, reading a good book, relaxing with a favourite show or movie, and spending time with my partner and our kitty cat friend, Vivica.

It is a privilege to walk alongside clients as they explore their experiences, develop deeper self-understanding, and move toward lives that feel more aligned and fulfilling.

I look forward to meeting you.

Michele
